![]() So Here it is the grand total of 365 pennies from Walt Disney World. Can you imagine the look on the TSA agent's face when they saw this come through security on the X-ray monitor in the airport. Even though the hard part of locating and pressing is done, the real work now begins. I will continue to post updates on how the processing and cataloging process is going. All of these are loaded into the shaker for another tumble to get rid of the faint traces of the date and design marks. ![]() Here is the first group of about 80 coins fresh out of the shaker perfectly clean and brilliantly shining. It will take me at least three days to get them to the state where they need to be before putting them into their coin flips. Lets see how it looks with our friend Dopey. ![]() After all the pennies are put into flips, I can begin the process of re-building the sets into the 3 or 4 designs the way they came out of the machines. I'll keep you posted.

![]() At this point in the trip I was running out of pressed penny steam, but I knew the end was in sight. I was already buying quarter rolls at an alarming rate and getting dangerously low on my polished pennies, but this park had the least amount of machines. The highlight of the day was a store that had three penny machines in it that were all encased in hand carved wooden cases. The funniest thing was that the pennies had to exit through the carved tiger's mouth. Check out the Youtube video below to see how the pennies fly out as if they were being spit out. I acually skipped a couple of quarter machines in this park because I was just out of supplies. I even had to borrow the last 2 pennies on the last machine leaving the park because I was plain out. ![]() Final day haul (day 4) 63 coins animal kingdom. ![]() Day 3 and the wheels begin to come off. Hollywood studios has the smallest footprint of all four parks but boasts the greatest number of machines. Who would have thought that pressing so many quarters would eat through my coin rolls so quickly ? Everything was going smooth until I was forced to stop and buy quarters every time we walked into a new section of the park. Are pressed quarters that popular that Disney needs to put 5 damn quarter machines in? Seriously ! I know that pennies are the bulk of my collection and my main focus but if I was going all out, I would have to do the quarters too. I ended the day beat up, but not defeated. I only missed one machine that was out of order and unplugged, and could not locate another that was supposed to be there but otherwise got everything. Oh Well. After finishing up with Hollywood studios we went back to finish Epcot which pushed me over the edge for a new single day record which will probably never be broken at 122 coins. Wow ! ![]() Day 2 Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Feeling good about the success of day one at Epcot I was ready to kick ass in the park that claimed to have the greatest number of penny machines. The layout was somewhat familiar to what I know from back home at Disneyland so the name locations of the machines would make sense. ![]() I was also armed with a secret weapon, the official Penny press guide that I got on the way out of Epcot the night before from an enthusiastic cast member at guest services. Yes, he printed me out a thick penny guide using up quite a bit of high quality color ink. I was able to shoot pictures of the guide and store them in my phone for quick reference in the park. Plus I didn't want to bend up my awesome new guide by stuffing it in the camera bag. I think this is my favorite souvenir from the trip ! ![]() Only a few times did I run into the dreaded "Out of Order" sign. This particular one was at the exit to the Buzz light year astro blaster ride in the gift shop. ![]() Here is the haul from Magic Kingdom. 107 coins total. This truly has to be my greatest day ever right ? I got to see the Country Bear Jamboree and the electrical light parade, both of which have been gone from Disneyland for at least 15 years. ![]() So begins the greatest Pressed penny excursion that I will probably ever get the chance to take part in. 4 parks over 4 days, not including the hotels, resorts, and surrounding areas that I can reach. I do believe this is the holy grail of pressed penny collectors, Walt Disney World. When I found out I was going I was immediately stressed out, "Do I have enough materials to make sure this trip is a success?" I decided to follow the advice of my wife who usually is right and bring everything I had. This included 7 rolls of 50+ polished pennies each and hundreds of dollars in neatly rolled quarters. I even brought polished dimes and nickels just in case there was the odd silver coin press. The first adventure was Epcot where I quickly became overwhelmed. I was using the penny finder Iphone app as well as pictures and diagrams off the official Disney penny list. (Which was last updated in June). ![]() Thanks to a supportive group I managed to get every single machine except for the Imagination penny machine which closed at 7:00 and a broken 3 quarter press machine right inside the front gate. Oh well, I guess there is a reason to go back. The epcot total is 73 pressed coins (pictured)
![]() This is one of the first pressed penny related projects that I made when I first started Collecting. It features a seasonal Haunted mansion pressed quarter set and the standard Pirates of the Carribean set on a wallpaper similar to the one found in the haunted mansion. This little shadow box sits on a shelf collecting dust. I thought it was only appropriate to add a not so hidden mickey out of a set of pennies and a quarter. |
